Causes of vegetative-vascular dystonia
The main causes of vegetative-vascular dystonia include the following.
- Prolonged stress.
- Mental trauma.
- Physical overexertion.
- Bad habits (smoking, drinking alcohol).
- Negative environmental factors.
- Hereditary predisposition.
- Psycho-emotional overload.
- Sudden and significant changes in environmental conditions.
- Mental fatigue.
- Age-related hormonal changes.
- Severe intoxication.
In addition to the listed reasons that have a direct impact on the appearance of vegetative-vascular dystonia, there are a number of factors that themselves cannot cause VSD, but reveal a predisposition to it. The longer and stronger their exposure, the higher the likelihood of pathology occurring.
Violation of the vegetative functions of the body is promoted by:
- smoking;
- frequent and prolonged work at the computer;
- frequent abuse of alcoholic beverages;
- lack of sleep;
- uncontrolled medication use;
- frequent consumption of very spicy foods.
Treatment of vegetative-vascular dystonia
If treatment is started in a timely manner, the result in most cases will be positive. However, it may take several months. The duration of therapy directly depends on the form of vegetative-vascular dystonia and varies between 4–10 months. It is impossible to prescribe a universal remedy for VSD that will definitely help overcome the pathology.
The main role in the fight against vegetative-vascular dystonia is played by a healthy lifestyle, feasible physical activity and lack of stress. In addition, to achieve results, you need to give up smoking and drinking alcohol, normalize your work and rest schedule, adhere to proper nutrition, diversifying your diet with vegetables, fruits, nuts and dairy products.
What is prescribed for VSD? Treatment of vegetative-vascular dystonia is a whole range of measures, which may include the following:
- diet;
- taking medications;
- physical therapy;
- breathing exercises;
- acupuncture;
- massage;
- balneotherapy;
- phototherapy;
- psychotherapy;
- physiotherapeutic procedures (massage, breathing exercises, etc.).
There are a lot of drugs prescribed for VSD. Their choice depends on the symptoms of the pathology, the person’s health status, age and other factors. Therefore, only a doctor can tell you what to take for VSD. For each patient, the doctor develops an individual treatment regimen (based on the clinical picture), which may include the following groups of drugs:
- soothing herbal remedies;
- antidepressants;
- tranquilizers and anxiolytics;
- nootropics;
- vascular drugs;
- psychotropic drugs;
- adaptogens, etc.
Psychotropic drugs for VSD
People with vegetative-vascular dystonia are afraid to turn to psychotropic medications. “Psychotropic” - influence on the soul. That is, this group of drugs is aimed at finding the cause of the disease, including VSD. It is designed to eliminate the states of anxiety and fear that arise in connection with this.
Psychotropic drugs significantly calm the patient, as they inhibit the activity of the central nervous system. But their different types do not act the same way: some smoothly, without serious consequences, while others have a bunch of side effects. However, drugs in this group are the main components in the treatment of VSD.
Psychotropic drugs reduce the risk of panic attacks, making the treatment of vegetative-vascular dystonia much better and more effective.
What are the dangers of taking psychotropic drugs?
Our psyche is complex, and any interference in its work is obviously undesirable.
However, today's doctors prescribe drugs that negatively affect a person's mental activity in every fifth case. Moreover, this does not depend on the disease. In the twentieth century, an intensive increase in mental disorders began among the population of various countries. This is due to the mass production and use of antidepressants and antipsychotics.
Psychiatric clinics have seen twice as many patients as usual over the past decade. The number of suicides has increased significantly, and depression has become more common causes. In world statistics they have the fifth highest mortality rate, and in Russia and Ukraine they have the third highest mortality rate.
In America and the West, psychotropic drugs occupy a large share of drugs; they are actively sold and consumed. Residents from different parts of the Earth suffer from mental and psychosomatic disorders, and the incidence of vegetative-vascular dystonia is seriously increasing. Which is no coincidence. And many of them were not even previously known to science; more and more new disorders of the functioning of the nervous system are appearing. It is difficult to establish the cause or give a reasonable explanation for such a rapid increase in diseases. Therefore, treatment is often more intuitive in nature, depending on the opinion of the individual doctor prescribing psychotropic drugs, rather than scientifically based.
Such diseases include:
- Manager syndrome.
- CFS - chronic fatigue syndrome.
- ADHD – attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; and etc.
All this, unfortunately, cannot but depend on the mass consumption of drugs containing psychotropic substances that destroy the normal functioning of the psyche.
What to consider when choosing a medicine
To avoid disturbances in your psyche, you should not take all the medications that are prescribed to you. You need to carefully read the instructions before use and study the side effects section. Determine whether the substances contained in the medicine will help and whether the characteristic symptom of VSD will be relieved.
You must always remember that antipsychotic drugs, and even more so antidepressants, are powerful drugs that have many limitations. They definitely cannot be self-prescribed. But, if the doctor prescribed it, then it is better to study the instructions in detail. Do not blindly trust the doctor in this matter.
Groups of psychotropic drugs
Psychotropic medications are divided into different groups:
- Sedatives;
- Tranquilizers;
- Neuroleptics;
- Antidepressants.
The list was created depending on the strength of the impact on the patient’s psyche and side effects. The first type is less dangerous, the last is the most.
It’s sad to admit, but a few decades ago these drugs did not exist at all, and today’s people are not able to do without them.
Despite the abundance of drugs, each patient himself can make a choice in favor of certain medications, or not take them at all.
However, you should take a responsible attitude towards your health and adhere to the doctor’s recommendations, correlate and analyze all information received about the psychotropic drug. Author: K.M.N., Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences M.A. Bobyr
Drug elimination of symptoms of vegetative-vascular dystonia
Symptomatic treatment is aimed at eliminating the manifestations of vegetative-vascular dystonia.
- For rapid heartbeat and periodic surges in blood pressure, beta-blockers are indicated.
- For VSD and panic attacks, taking tranquilizers is indicated.
- Heart pain can be relieved with sedatives. For bradycardia (heart rate less than 50 beats per minute), it is recommended to take a drug that stimulates heart contractions.
- Vasodilators are also necessary for VSD. ACE inhibitors have this effect.
- If pain (in the abdomen, joints, muscles, heart) due to VSD cannot be relieved, doctors may prescribe tricyclic or serotonergic antidepressants. Typically, a short course of taking these drugs quickly relieves pain.
- With the hypertensive type of vegetative-vascular dystonia, agents for the blood vessels of the brain are needed that improve blood circulation. These drugs will relieve dizziness due to VSD caused by high blood pressure.
- If constipation appears against the background of VSD, then you should not only adjust your diet, where fiber-rich foods will predominate, but also, if necessary, take laxatives recommended by your doctor.
- If the patient has a tendency to diarrhea, he, on the contrary, needs to limit the consumption of foods containing fiber and take fixatives as necessary. Also in this case, sorbents can be used.
- To eliminate signs of venous insufficiency, venotonic drugs may be prescribed. In addition, such tablets help with headaches due to VSD and eliminate tinnitus.
- For headaches due to low blood pressure, it is recommended to take tonics.
Thus, along with the treatment of the underlying pathology, a fairly wide range of tablets for VSD are used to eliminate the unpleasant symptoms of vegetative-vascular dystonia.
Diagnostics
The autonomic nervous system consists of two divisions: sympathetic and parasympathetic.
The first section is activated when necessary to enhance the body's response to stress or other psychological disorders. When it works, sweating may increase, breathing quickens, muscle tone increases, increasing blood pressure levels. In the modern rhythm of life, people often suppress anger, preventing the body from splashing out the negative. After this, the body independently carries out the necessary discharge at any time. Thus, a clinical syndrome of vegetative-vascular dystonia of the hypertensive type arises. If treatment measures are not taken in time, you can harm the general condition of the body. Vegetative-vascular dystonia of the hypertensive type involves jumps in systolic blood pressure (on average up to 140 mmHg), while normalization of the pressure level independently returns to normal in a short time without taking concomitant medications. It is enough for the patient to lie down and relax.
This syndrome is dangerous due to the occurrence of hypertension. With vegetative-vascular disorders, the muscle tone of the arteries increases, which is the main cause of the development of hypertension.
The main causes of the disease are:
- frequent stress;
- increased physical activity;
- sleep disturbances;
- hormonal imbalances during pregnancy or menopause;
- decreased immunity;
- the presence of infections in the body (herpes, cytomegalovirus and others);
- pinched nerve fibers (occurs due to problems with the spine or traumatic brain injury);
- heredity.
The above factors can cause the disease, so they need to be eradicated as much as possible.
Also, people who are at risk of the disease must undergo regular examination by a qualified physician to diagnose VSD.
To diagnose vegetative-vascular dystonia of the hypertensive type, the doctor must perform several procedures.
- Initial examination of the patient, which includes taking an anamnesis and examining the coronary arteries.
- Electrocardiography to find heart murmurs or arrhythmias.
- Rheovasography is a procedure that allows you to identify and graphically record pulse fluctuations and blood pressure levels.
- Submission of general and biochemical analysis of urine and blood.
- Exclusion of organic pathology or hypertension. The general condition of the body and the influence of risk factors on the patient are also taken into account.
Eltacin® in the treatment of VSD
Therapy for VSD should be aimed at eliminating its cause, and not masking the symptoms. This is precisely why Eltacin® was developed. It contains 3 amino acids: cystine, glycine and glutamic acid. Their combination promotes the production of glutathione in the body - one of the powerful and natural antioxidants in the body, which neutralizes the effects of free radicals, prolongs the life of cells and prevents their death, normalizes the supply of oxygen to tissues and individual cells and helps enzymes maintain their functions. Thanks to this, the drug allows you to eliminate the symptoms of VSD, as well as influence the root of the problem and restore the balance between organs and systems, disturbed by the negative effects of free radicals.
Eltacin®:
- is the strongest endogenous antioxidant;
- sold at an affordable price.
- dispensed without a doctor's prescription;
